It’s been a while since our last update – the program has wrapped up with our final Build-A-Brand presentation (where we pitched a new innovation product) as well as our Yellow Belt Projects, where we worked on a 4-month project in various departments. We spent the last week presenting to Canadian and American executives in both Toronto and New York City.
Now, we’re onto our new roles to start our career at Labatt! It’s incredible that the past 10 months have flown by so quickly. I’ve spent the last 4 months working for the Sales Intelligence team on a Non-Focus Brand Share strategy. I’m flying to Edmonton as I’m typing this – settling into a new role at the Edmonton Brewery where I’ll be an Operations Group Manager. Our GMT class has spread out across the country, from Calgary to Montreal with roles in Supply, Logistics and Sales.
A new class of GMTs will be starting in August – but please feel free to reach out to us as we settle into a new chapter in our careers.
It’s been quite a ride and an amazing opportunity to be able to see the ins and outs of the company as we have for the last year. The memories have been truly special.
I've included a sendoff message from everyone on the team. If you have any questions or want to connect, feel free to! And if you're stopping by Edmonton, come say hello!
2018 GMT Class Wrap Up
Christian - Sales Rep, Montreal QC
10 months flew by! I understand that I just scratched the surface of many things, but it’s a 10 months that I strongly believe will benefit me in my long term career. My first step outside of the GMT program is in Montreal as a convenience store sales rep.
Richard - Sales Rep, Calgary AB
I was given the role of Sales Rep in downtown Calgary. I was stoked about the idea of working in a new city working with a great sales team. My role has mainly been getting ready for the Calgary Stampede (my first ever). The whole city is excited, and I am thrilled just to have a role in setting it up! The GMT program did a great job of preparing me for moving to a new city and adapting to new situations. While I’ve only been here for three weeks, I already feel at home here with this role! I can’t speak highly enough about my GMT experience, but I’m also excited about what’s to come at Labatt!
Devon - Inside Sales, Toronto ON
I am currently working in the tech sales side of the business after a whirlwind week of final presentations. Think Jim and Dwight from The Office: on the phone makin' calls and makin' sales.
Artem - Sales Rep, Mississauga ON
My 10 months as a GMT have ended but it doesn’t really feel that way at all. It’s been just 3 weeks since we flew back from New York City however I wouldn’t be able to tell you that without looking at a calendar. I have transitioned into the Sales Rep 2 role for the district of Mississauga in Ontario in very much the same way I’ve transitioned between Supply, Sales and Revenue Management during my 10 months. One would say out of the pan and into the fire, but I’m not worried because of the support network I was lucky enough to build since I’ve started working at Labatt. To all future GMT’s, you can and will succeed.
Lisa - Sales Rep, Guelph
The last month of GMT flew by for me, faster than I even imagined. It was a whirlwind of finishing up all the loose ends of our Build a Brand along with getting ready to present the Yellow Belt project that we had worked on for months. In the midst of it we were also finding out where we would be placed for our first role.
Needless to say, the Yellow Belt project was a great experienced that pushed me out of my comfort zone to tackle a problem I had never had experience handling. It was challenging and super frustrating at times but one of the greatest things I gained out of the 4 months was the relationships I built with my surrounding team. There was so much support for me day to day on the project and everyone was so inviting and asking me to join team events. Although the project is over now, I’ll always remain in touch with my team members.
As we close the final page of our GMT experience, I’ll be saying goodbye to our GMT class and moving into a new experience as Sales Representative for Guelph. Lots of uncertainty and challenges ahead but cheers to more adventures!
Nicole - Logistics Group Manager, Mississauga ON
Read Nicole’s first role journey here! She’s got a whole post dedicated to it.
Natalie - Supply Group Manager, Edmonton AB
Well that’s a wrap! Good luck to the next class that is coming in, and feel free to reach out anytime if you have questions or are interested in becoming a GMT! It was an unreal 10 months, but the journey doesn't stop here!
